At every turn we are assailed by information and guidance suggestions. How to live longer, how to live fitter and how to live happier. There is no shortage of advice. The next thing is presented as being the best thing. The logic being offered to us is that, if we ignore and resist, then we are turning our back on potential benefits.
That’s where discretion comes into it. Not everything we are being told or offered is true and correct. Blind acceptance may be expected by those who come up with the latest ideas but what’s required is a considered approach.
Greed is a powerful emotion and there is a very real danger that we may not see it for what it is. Someone wants something from us and they offer us an incentive. It can be physical or emotional but too often behind it is the aim of gain…theirs not ours.
It’s important to weigh our next decision against the success or failure of those decisions we have made in the past. Every fresh move should be a calculated risk. Some of us are easier targets than others. We have to accept our own weaknesses and strengths and that can be challenging.
Far better to first seek out the opinions and suggestions of those we know we can trust before accepting the offer of a stranger.
Mistakes will be made. There will be errors of judgement. But if we do not consciously put a consideration gap between offer and action then we are running an unnecessary risk. We are setting ourselves up for failure.
As a general rule we spend far too much time and energy making our life more complicated that it needs to be.
It does not have to be that way.
