If Not Now Then When?

Change can often be driven by necessity. A particular state of being or a certain state of mind may no longer be in synch with circumstances. It may not be possible to sustain a particular condition of being while maintaining a healthy mental state.

But, when faced with the prospect of change, we can falter. We can opt for the status quo. We can choose to deny the need no matter how obvious or necessary and refuse to face the impending challenge.

We get to choose. Decisions made by others on our behalf have no relevance. It’s what we decide to do and how we decide to do it that is important. And, should that decision be to do nothing, then nothing will be done.

What’s called for is acceptance of the obvious. With acceptance comes a greater level of understanding of the situation as it is. We may see the truth and know the truth but that is not enough. In fact it is no more than the first step.

The sanctity and comfort of ignorance may provide short-term comfort but it is no answer when action is required.

Acceptance needs to be followed by action. Something needs to be done and something should be done.

A stumbling block to any movement that involves change is the expectation that it should be instantaneous. We want results and we want them now.

The truth is that sustainable change takes time and continuous effort to implement. It needs to be built…gradually and with purpose.

And, if anything is to be done, it must have a starting point. That can be the most difficult place of all to find and commit to.

The sooner though, the better.
