We would all like to know what awaits. We would like to prepare ourselves for whatever it is that is coming. The problem is that we are encaptured by uncertainty and bedevilled by unpredictability and there is nothing we can do to remedy the situation.
There are ways to increase the possibility that whatever is coming will have positive overtones just as there are ways we can boost the chances of a negative outcome. That, however, is as far as our choice extends. Beyond that lies the unknown.
Our future may stretch out over decades. It could be months. There is the possibility that it may only last until our next breath.
There is much to be said for the idea of living each day as it is our last but that should be seen more in an emotional than a financial sense. We will be remembered more for the way we made people feel than by the amount of goods we accumulated.
It is essential to nurture the key emotion of love but love alone is insufficient. Without honesty love lacks the impetus to become commitment. Honesty is the yardstick by which love can be measured.
Like love, honesty starts at a personal level. Recognising, evaluating and embracing the way we feel starts with telling ourselves the truth. Only when we have a clear understanding of who we are, what we believe and why we believe it can we effectively build that into a love that can be shared.
That, then, requires assessment of who we are today, setting aside the person we were yesterday or the person we hope to become tomorrow.
Now’s the day and now’s the hour.
Well said Gary.
