Change should never be made for nothing more than the sake of change.
Swapping the familiar for the uncertain is a serious step to take. The known can be far more comfortable and far less challenging than the unknown.
But therein lies a quandary. There can be no growth without change. It takes an alteration of a state of mind or being to maintain and build personal peace and understanding.
All around us is changing. What was true and understandable yesterday can be seen as false and foolish today.
And the undeniable truth – while often ignored – is that we are not the same person today as we were yesterday.
Denial therefore is no defence and there is little lasting comfort or reassurance to be found in feigned ignorance.
Stepping out and stepping forward is serious business.
Preparation is needed before shifting from one way of thinking to another or modifying an opinion or attitude. The motivation should be self-care and self improvement and not an attempt to please others.
We need to be more self aware and, in being more self aware, be kinder to ourselves.
It’s essential to make the effort to investigate the perils and the positivity of change before making any shift.
To do that we must first look inwards. So many answers to the problems that trouble us are already there waiting for us to uncover them.
And that can make the inevitability of change so much easier.
