It’s not only what we say but how we say it. It’s not only what we do but how we do it. There can be a credibility gap between intent and execution. Many an unanticipated misstep can be made between thought and action.
Misunderstanding can result in division and misery. Words and actions can be damaging.
The problem we all face is that action is followed by reaction. And reaction can be followed by further action until those involved are caught in a loop from which there appears to be no escape.
Some people are adept at expressing themselves. What they say is what they mean and what they do is what they intended. Others struggle when it comes to getting their message across to its target audience.
A great deal of mental anguish is the result of something said or done that should not have been said or done. There is pain associated with error and there are some mistakes that will never be fixed.
It is wise therefore to consider the next step whether it is to be verbal or physical. Take a second to think about the consequences. How will what happens in the present stack up in the future?
Words and actions have power and energy. More than that they also have consequences. It’s advisable to pause before thinking or doing. Better to run the risk of missing an opportunity than prompting a conflict.
Erring on the side of caution is not erring at all. It’s not a mistake to be careful and considerate. In fact it’s one of the tools in the self-care arsenal.
