Better Now Than Then

Too many of us check the instructions after the failure of a project. Too many of us refer to the directions only after we have lost our way.

One of the greatest challenges faced by society is the belief we have in our own capacity to survive and prosper as individuals. But it’s not by independence that we exist it’s by inter-dependence.

When we rely on ourselves at the exclusion of others we can stumble and fall. We can become both unreliable and unhinged. At the very least we stagnate. We are not wired to spend all of our time inside our own heads and our own hearts.

But that need for community and connection comes with responsibility…first to our ourselves and then to others.

We need to be able to rely on others, to benefit from the knowledge of their experience, to accept guidance and suggestion.

Before we can do that, however, we must check on our own reliability…to understand that before we can expect those we meet to know and love us we must first know and love ourselves.

The space we occupy as individuals is important. Each space is part of a community. What we do within that space is vital.

We owe it to ourselves and those around us to strive to be better today than we were yesterday.
