The Deception Of Perception

We owe it to ourselves to live our best life. It’s the ultimate responsibility…to make the most of who we are at any given point in time. The opportunities to grow, change and develop will continue to present themselves. It’s up to us to recognise and embrace them.

So much unnecessary stress is generated by the misconception that we need to be better than the next person…that we need to prove ourselves to others…that happiness is linked to success and that success is all about financial and psychological domination.

The truth is that we are our own challenge. The only person we should be striving to be better than is the person we were yesterday. When the focus is set the big picture becomes much clearer.

Anxiety is all too often fuelled by the perception of failure. The expectations of others can have a devastating effect on our own self image. What one person sees as a defeat another sees as a victory.

We can become distracted from ourselves by the noise being made  by the people around us. It’s when we lose sight of who we are, where we are and what we want that we can begin to slip.

Anxiety left unrecognised and unchecked can develop into depression. Ignoring the need for self care is setting ourselves up to stumble and fall.

Friends and family can care about us – and care deeply. But, in the final analysis, the only one who can care for us is ourselves.

It’s only by taking the time to make the time for the person that we are that we can find the space to repair and grow.

The objective should always be to live our best life. That will involve make the changes only we can make and then enjoying the rewards.
