No Time Like The Present

It’s important to plan for the future. It makes sense to decide on a direction or a destination and work towards it.  There’s nothing wrong with the conviction that there are better, more productive and happier days ahead. Potential can be forged by positivity.

Tomorrow awaits. Ignoring that creates unnecessary confusion and uncertainty. But despite our best efforts and intentions, tomorrow remains a mystery.  We can influence what lies ahead but there’s little or nothing we can do to control it. And tomorrow’s not promised.

That makes today vital. Today is here. It’s the space, the occasion, the possibilities, the people and the reality that surround us right now. We are part of today. And today is ours to do with what we choose.

Too many todays are wasted. We have a tendency to spend time either looking back at yesterday or ahead to tomorrow. The risk is that the promise of the present can slip by unnoticed.

There is nothing more real than this very moment. It should not be squandered.

That’s not to suggest that there’s no value in the frivolous or the flippant. We all need distractions and diversions. Most of all we need balance.

Decisions made today can help heal the pain of the past or pave the way to the future. The next thought we have could be life-changing if we recognise its value and follow it with action.

Which brings us to awareness. If we fail to pay attention to the today we are in there’s a very real chance we will miss the opportunities to add value to the life we are leading.

As much as it’s important to be aware of our surroundings we must be aware of the role we play in the surroundings of others.

Today is a unique opportunity and we have a responsibility to ourselves to make the most of it.
