Operation Motivation

Action is preceded by motivation. There’s a reason for doing the things we do.

A common problem however is that there are times when we neglect or refuse to take the time to examine our motivation before responding to a situation.  And it’s that gap between thought and action which can be a major stressor in our lives.

Consideration – which is a common courtesy all too often overlooked in a self-centred society – is no excuse for procrastination but it’s nonetheless vital that we should think before we act.

Action is followed by consequence. Everything we do or say will have an impact at some place or at some time on someone. We are ultimately responsible for the chain of events we have set in motion.

Motivation can be influenced but it cannot be imposed. We choose the emotional  effort we will contribute. We decide the type of person we want to be. It’s personal.

It’s encouraging to realise that if we are unhappy with the person we are today we can work towards being a different person tomorrow. Growth and change is always possible. It need not be dramatic. There’s much to said in favour of incremental change.

The starting point must be an honest assessment of the relationship between our head and our heart. It’s in that relationship and the balance of the two that motivation exists.

It may be possible to ignore the person we are but we are unable to hide from ourselves. Wherever we go, there we are.

Life is about finding the harmony that links giving with receiving and determining the effort we are prepared to make for both.

Importantly life is about choice and making those choices. It’s about motivation and the influences behind that motivation. And it’s about giving ourselves permission to achieve our potential.

  1. Not sure I can ever reconcile my head with my heart, but I totally concur that we can put our past selves or parts of our selves under the microscope for evaluation and learn and grow to be a better version of ourselves. Truly motivating. Thank you.
