There can be a considerable void between theory and practice. Knowledge and action can sometimes make strange and unfamiliar bedfellows.
We can be absolutely sure about what needs to be done in a particular circumstance but just as resolute in our determination not to do it. We can be held back by fear or a lack of self-confidence. The result is that nothing changes. Inaction feeds frustration. Stress levels rise. Confusion abounds.
So much of the stress we carry can be directly linked to the sure and certain understanding of the fact that we have chosen inaction over action. Avoiding the obvious is not a solution but a further complication. Deliberate ignorance is a long way from bliss. In fact it can be self-destructive.
We may be able to fool others but it’s far more difficult to fool ourselves. As individuals we often need to give ourselves permission to move forwards. Perhaps more than permission we need self-encouragement. We may have a clear picture of the pathway but we are hampered by the reluctance to take the first step.
It’s important that we factor risk into our daily existence. There are often times when the only clear and reasonable course of action is to take a chance. But that’s where common sense must not be overlooked.
Careful consideration of the options is essential. Blind choice is never advisable. We must look to the lessons of the past in conjunction with the reality of today before plotting the way forward.
A life well lived is a life lived learning. The accumulation of knowledge is a process without end.
We have both the ability and the capacity to change the direction of the life we are living. What happens inside our head and our heart may be influenced by those around us but the choices we make are undoubtedly our own.
Sheer genius!
