Me, Myself, Eye To Eye

It’s true that knowledge is power. The more we know, the stronger we can be.

But knowledge is no preventative when it comes to mistakes. We can know, but still make the wrong decision. We can repeat past errors. We can be well aware of all the options and make the wrong choice. It’s only after the event that we can see the difference between confidence and confusion.

There are no guarantees when it comes to human character. We are all flawed. Some of us are more aware than others of the areas in which we fall short. But there is a vast gap between knowing and changing.

A common human failing is a lack of self-confidence…a fear of backing ourselves…an over-riding uncertainty when it comes to important decision making.

We can project positivity but bluff and bluster will only get us so far. Self-assurance can be over-ridden by self-doubt. Our public face can be quite different to our private persona.

Self-denial is no answer…at least not in the long term.

It’s not possible to hide from ourselves. Wherever we go we take ourselves with us. We may be able to fool some of the people some of the time but, ultimately, there comes a time for a reckoning…a time when we are required to look into the mirror and see beyond our facade and into the true reflection of our heart and our soul.

The good news is that if what we see is not what we want then we can do something about it.

As much as we are all responsible for our own happiness, we are every bit as responsible for our own behaviour.

And our first responsibility is to ourselves.
