There are things that make us sad. There are things that make us happy.
There are things that make us anxious. There are things that make us angry.
There are many things that make us the who we are and dictate the way we live our lives.
The dominant force in the lives we live is the one on which we concentrate. Our attitude and direction is determined by our focus. We are the person we allow ourselves to be.
We have the often ignored the responsibility to be the best version of ourselves. We are answerable in the first instance to ourselves but then to those around us and, ultimately, society in general.
The who we are and the how we behave has a ripple effect. That effect can be positive or negative.
The point is that we all have the capacity to change. But first it’s necessary to understand ourselves. It’s only by knowing where we are that we can formulate a vision for where we want to be. It’s only by knowing ourselves that we can begin to appreciate the ripples we are creating.
Responsibilities can be both ignored or avoided. But then come the consequences.
The good within us all needs to be fostered and promoted. The bad within us all needs to be controlled and changed. The best we can hope for is a manageable balance.
Ultimately, we are called on to exercise the power of choice. The picker and the chooser is the person we are.
And we are enough.
