A Monumental Moment

There are at least two difficulties when it comes to the issue of planning. One is necessity and the second is the very real possibility of ultimate futility.

The problem we face is that it’s not possible to have one without the other.

We are all aware of the fact that failing to plan is planning to fail. But while making the most of the moment we are in, it’s important to at least acknowledge the moment that is coming. Whether we get to experience the reality of that acknowledgement only the passage of time will tell.

There are a vast number of unknowns that sit in the gap between a plan and its realisation. But that should never be used as an excuse. There will always be stumbling blocks that impede our progress. We will fall and we will fail. Of that much we can be certain.

And there are no guarantees that we will get what we want or arrive at where we want to be.

The reward, then, is the effort we put into making change followed by the energy needed to accept the consequences – good or bad – of that effort.

It’s all about trying. When we step outside our comfort zone we open ourselves up to discovering that which lies beyond. And there is always something there.

The life we are living may not be the life we had planned. But we are here. And we are now. It’s important to make the most of the here and now, the space and time that we occupy.

The then and there of the future and our perceptions of possibilities may never come to pass.

A wish list, a dream or a plan has its place. It helps feed our imagination. It helps us believe that things are perhaps possible.

But reality is the next breath.

Everything we have done and experienced has brought us to this moment.

We have a responsibility to ourselves to make the most of it.
