Who, What And Why

The person we are has – to a greater or lesser degree – been created by both nature and nurture.

In the final analysis, however, it’s what we do with what we have that makes all the difference.

The bottom line is a matter of choice. And while there will always be contributing factors well beyond our reach or influence, there is much that happens to us and through us that is the direct result of the decisions we have made. We are responsible for ourselves.

Much time is spent on making plans…dreaming dreams…imaging scenarios. That much is healthy. But if plans, dreams and scenarios fail to result in action then they lack any real and lasting value.

On the other hand, action taken without any preceding plan, dream or scenario can be an exercise in frustration and futility.

It’s not enough to let others do our thinking for us because that ignores the fact that we are all unique individuals. Likewise it’s not a good idea to expect or allow others to live our life for us.

Opinions can be right or wrong and they can result in correct or incorrect action. But opinions are vital. A wrong decision can always be corrected. Deciding not have an opinion is potentially dangerous.

In making plans for change it is always sensible to consider the consequences. Only then is it possible to decide if the action will warrant the thought which precedes it.

Knowing what we think is one thing. Knowing why we think it is another thing entirely.

Ultimately it becomes a matter of accepting and living with consequences. And that’s a very personal thing.
