Everything we do, say or think has consequences…and that’s true whether we choose to deny it or not.
One thing results in the next, one direction leads to another. Any attempt to freeze time and space is futile. Change happens minute by minute, hour by hour despite our often desperate attempts to delay or postpone the result.
The catch with consequences is that they come with responsibility…they demand a response. The longer we delay that response, the more we can suffer.
That’s not to suggest all change is monumental. The majority of it is incremental…small things that, given time, can accumulate and become big things. It’s altogether possible to be blind-sided by something we saw coming but doggedly refused to confront. Forget self-preservation. We can be the architects of our own destruction.
Far better then to accept those things that we know we cannot change. That includes the attitudes of the people with whom we share space and time.
True responsibility starts with the individual and part of that responsibility is understanding that improvement and change is always possible. We must consider those things that we think, do and say. And we must consider them in light of being true to ourselves.
There will always be times when we disappoint the person we know ourselves to be…when we fall short of the personal standards we have set. But while we are human we are also enough.
We are in this time and place on this day because that is where we are meant to be. We have all arrived at today by following different paths. As well as being enough we are also unique.
We honour that by giving due consideration to whatever it is that flows through us. What we put into the space we occupy has value. It’s important to others but it’s vital for ourselves.
It starts with honesty and acceptance and there is no reason that it should not start today..
