The gap separating fact from fiction is becoming increasingly blurred as technology transitions. It’s becoming harder to believe what we can hear and more difficult to accept what we can see. Face value is no longer what we expect it to be.
Those with specific agendas make the most noise and demand the lion’s share of attention. We live in a time when communication has never been easier. Truth still exists but is often shrouded in lies.
It’s impossible not to hear what is happening around us. It’s also impossible not to see that which is in front of us. But – given that deception and misdirection face us at every turn – it is all the more important that we should listen and examine.
The best we can hope for is to be in a situation where we can make an informed decision. What that entails, however, is taking the time to gather the available information and then test it against what we already know and believe.
We must allow ourselves to trust our own judgement. Inadequacies in that area can be remedied by the pursuit of knowledge.
The world is moving at a rapid pace and we are doing ourselves a disservice if we adopt the position that it’s all too much and we simply have no answers. That’s when mistakes and misjudgment happen.
The unavoidable truth is that decisions we make and actions we take have consequences. Result and responsibility land at the feet of the individual.
The power of one is real. A single person can make change. We can alter or modify who we are and what we think. The power we have is the power over ourselves. When we take that seriously the potential emerges to do something constructive with it.
The first step is a willingness to examine and question and the place to start is the person we know ourselves to be.
The truth may be difficult and painful to understand but blind acceptance is a recipe for disaster.
