In our rush to define and catergorise individuals, we do ourselves a great disservice.
Society requires that we be one thing or another; that we believe one thing or another; and that we identify with one group or another. And we comply because we want to appear to be agreeable and we desire companionship.
If only it were that simple.
In choosing a team we accept the rules and regulations of that team. We deliberately establish barriers. We restrict ourselves.
When we accept a definition or a disagnosis of the person others believe us to be we run the very real risk of ignoring our own potential and possibilities.
We seek to find our place and that is often where we are directed to be. But there is more confusion than comfort in accepting the restrictions placed on us by others.
As an individual it is important to understand that we have potential that can only be hindered by the restrictions we place on ourselves.
We can be different. We can be better. We can be happier. We can change. But only by being open to the possibility and then following through with action.
First is to decide whose expectations we will aspire to…those around us or that person we know ourselves to be.
In a world where there is so much beige it is important to do whatever we can to let our colour shine. Ignore it and it will fade.
The power lies within and life is short.
