Wishing and hoping will not make it so. And there is nothing to be gained from regret.
It’s more important to look at the life we are living today in order to gain an understanding of who we are and where we are and use that to set the scene for how we want to be living tomorrow.
The problem is that there is no way to know what the future will bring. That lack of assurance can result in us putting more effort into looking at what was instead of concentrating on what is. That leaves little energy to devote to considering what could be.
The best that can be gained from past experience is knowledge. The main factor there is the information that can be used to avoid making the same mistakes all over again.
Wisdom is not a gift but something earned and learned.
Looking forward is all well and good. Looking backward can be a waste of time, energy and emotion. Looking around or being in the moment is the most efficient use of our time.
It’s important to understand that each and every day we become a different version of the person we were the day before. Change is rarely dramatic. It happens gradually if we allow it to happen at all.
Change takes effort and energy. It takes determination and focus. And the only phase of change that we can control and direct is the change that happens with our next breath. The now is the part of our life to make decisions and take action. Now is the time to change.
The most important thing to remember is that no-one can make us change. But by altering our state of mind we can alter our state of being.
We get to choose.
