We only have varying degrees of control over those things that occur outside of ourselves. That control sits inside a spectrum that ranges from absolute to nil.
As difficult as it can sometimes be to accept, there are situations and circumstances which we are unable to direct or influence. The change we want is unachievable. The result we seek will always be out of reach.
The problem is that we can put an enormous amount of energy into those things. The result can be inevitable failure and mental anguish. Those things we choose to pursue can result in personal damage.
Practicality comes with practice. Common sense needs to be developed. Choosing the right path from the wrong path can be troublesome but it is a skill required by those who desire a settled and happy existence.
That which happens around us is driven by exterior forces and influences often at odds with our own understanding and beliefs.
Fortunately we are all given insight…the ability to look within to find answers.
We are stronger than we give ourselves credit for being. We are often wiser than we are prepared to accept.
It comes down to choice. Rejection or acceptance. That small still voice inside of us is our conscience. It is there as a guide. We can either hear our conscience and act on it or remain deaf to the messages it is sending.
Our ultimate power is the power to choose…between right and wrong, love and hate, defeat and victory.
The answers sit within alongside strength. But we have to first choose to seek it and then whether to accept it.
Choice is the ultimate responsibility.
