Deception has become a modern era byword. If we are not practicing it at one level or another we are victims of it.
There are those around us who want to take advantage of both our trust and our gullibility. They seek to profit from our misfortune. They have no qualms when it comes to causing emotional or financial harm.
The most difficult thing to accept is that sometimes those perpetrators can be within our inner circle. They have already breached the boundaries we have established in our bid for self protection. In doing so, they have shown themselves to be unreliable or untrustworthy.
It is therefore essential that we work against self-deception…the art of refusing to believe the obvious…the ability to look past without first looking through…validation that lacks reasonable examination.
Not everything or everybody should be accepted at face value. Propositions and proposals need to be considered no matter how apparently trustworthy their origin.
If there is reason to doubt it should be seen as cause for concern. When it comes to protecting our minds our morals and our possessions we have a personal responsibility. That responsibility should always be taken seriously.
It’s all a matter of staying alert but not being constantly alarmed. And that can take some practice.
Wellbeing – both mental and physical – is the responsibility of the individual. At the end of the day we have to be accountable to ourselves.
