There’s a flipside to over-enthusiastic self-criticism. At the other extreme lies the perception of self-perfection.
While some of us can see no right in what we think and do, there are others who can see no wrong.
Both extremes need re-examination and adjustment in a bid to restore balance. Balance brings with it some of the peace and satisfaction we need to enjoy life.
The good news is that even the worst of situations can be improved. But there can be no improvement without the combination of desire and effort.
There is always something that can be done to either lift our spirits or to temper our enthusiasm, changing our perception and altering our direction.
But while we can always be better it’s not possible that we can achieve perfection.
Those who refuse to accept that they are flawed individuals are the ones who can suffer the most.
To see ourselves as perfect in either thought or deed is to practice the art of self deception.
It’s essential that we take the time to check in with the person we are…to understand and justify why we think the things that we think and do the things that we do. That needs to come hand-in-hand with the desire and incentive to make regular character adjustments based on what we are prepared to accept from the person we have become.
Honesty is essential but honesty comes at a cost.
It all starts with being true to ourselves, recognising and accepting the mistakes we are making and correcting them.
After all, we are all responsible for our own happiness.
