The famous quote tells us that nothing is certain except death and taxes. And it’s easy to accept and understand that both death and taxes will impact on everyone’s life.
But a certainty that is all too easy to overlook is the certainty of change. Nothing remains the same.
Not every change is immediately obvious. Some of it can be quite subtle. But it is happening to us, through us and around us every minute of every day.
The difficulty with change is that we have little alternative other than to accept it. We can twist it and manipulate it to a degree but we are unable to stop it happening.
The inevitability of change is something that can sometimes be difficult to accept and even harder to understand.
Refusal to embrace change is at the core of a substantial amount of the mental anguish and illness that bedevils society today.
Change can be delayed but it is impossible to stop. As for life and circumstance, just because it is what it is there is no way to guarantee that it will become what we expect, hope and plan it will be.
There is no need to abandon hope. There is no excuse to stop dreaming and working on self improvement strategies. But it’s important to understand that when change occurs it may not be the change we had expected or dreamed of happening in our lives.
We grow through change. We learn from change. It’s something we simply have to accept.
