Knee-jerk reactions are inadvisable. A decision made in haste can often be regretted. Emotional and psychological upheaval can be the direct result of an ill-considered action. We can easily do and think things that are simply not in our best interests.
There are times when we forget to be kind to ourselves. There are occasions when we set logic aside and act with reckless abandon. We can neglect ourselves and our own best interests to our own detriment. But then there is a price to be paid.
Far better to think things through before putting those thoughts into deed. A calculated risk is always preferable to something either ill-considered or automatic.
But therein lies the rub. At the other end of the spectrum sits a tendency to over-think; to put more energy and effort into a decision than it warrants in the grand scheme of things.
We can talk ourselves into just about anything. Conversely we can talk ourselves out of just about anything.
The safety valve is self knowledge…not only knowing what we think but understanding why we think it.
A firm decision based on flaky uncertainty is facing doom from the outset.
It’s important to look inside of ourselves before saying or doing something that will impact on those things that are happening outside of ourselves.
A quote attributed to Socrates is: “To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom.”
That makes more than enough sense to warrant serious consideration.
