More Of Less, More Or Less

The pressure to be productive takes its toll. The more we do, the more we have to do. The higher we climb, the greater the incline we feel we are facing.

All around us are expectations. Every day we face a barrage of demand for both our attention and our reaction. By far the greatest injustice is our own expectation of ourselves. It’s easy to become our own worst critic when what we need the most is to be our own best advocate and supporter.

And so we struggle. And the struggle continues becoming increasingly difficult. The maze of our own creation both depletes and depresses us. But there is an answer.

There’s much to be said for the mental and physical benefits of doing nothing…of consciously stepping back, taking a deep breath and letting observation replace action.

Intentional idleness creates a space for rest and recovery. A deliberate disconnect offers the opportunity for careful consideration and adjustment.

Time off, time away and time out is not wasted time. Instead it’s an investment in good and stable mental health and wellbeing. Self care starts with stepping back before a crisis situation emerges. So much of what occurs around us demands our attention and draws our focus. The danger is that we can ignore our own needs. We can overlook the requirement to restock and restore our emotional tank.

Quiet time must be planned. Consideration of self does not happen in a vacuum.

We are all responsible for taking care of the person we are so that we can become the person we would like to be.

Anything less is self neglect.
