Everything has value. Everything has worth. A financial, emotional or physical exchange is involved in acquiring anything we want. Nothing is for free.
We can check a price tag to learn how much an owner expects for whatever it is that they are offering. We can look elsewhere for someone offering something similar for a reduced exchange rate. We can shop around.
General commerce is relatively simple. Emotional commerce is another game entirely.
A great deal of mental anguish is caused when we fail to accept, recognise or appreciate the value of the person that we are. If we are unable to see what we are to ourselves then it becomes increasingly problematic when it comes to giving of ourselves to others.
We are unique individuals and the most valuable things we will ever own are our heart and our soul. We carry those personal treasures with us. They are precious gifts that need to be guarded and protected.
The problem is that we spend so much time looking outside ourselves in a bid to establish our own true worth. That time would be far better spent looking inside.
The value we have is the value we hold and the value we hold is the value we project to the world around us.
There will always be others waiting in the shadows to take advantage of our financial vulnerabilities. There are far more willing to exploit perceived emotional weaknesses.
In a very real sense we are who we choose to be. In a very practical sense we should always strive to be better.
