It’s rare that we can draw any satisfaction from being wrong. Error generally equates to failure. We prefer to be right.
It can sometimes be character building to be proven wrong. More likely though that it can be soul destroying.
We all make mistakes…a miss call, a miss calculation, a miss step…all can lead to embarrassment and potential regret.
While an error may be galling enough, it’s the acceptance of that error that can be most difficult. It’s vital that we should embrace our own self, flaws and all. Until that happens self-forgiveness is near impossible. If we lack the capacity for self-compassion we can become an enemy to the person we know ourselves to be. That can be more than problematic because wherever we go we take ourselves with us.
It’s important to understand that perfection is not realistic. It’s just as important, though to continue to strive to be a better version of ourselves.
Falling short of the absolute ideal is not failure. Failure is choosing to accept self-defeat.
We can all put more effort into living our best life. We can all get to recognise and understand ourselves in a more complete way. But we are unable to expand our horizons if we fail to first accept our limitations.
We are human and we are unique.
We will make mistakes and some of life’s most difficult lessons are learned through the trials and tribulations that result from those mistakes.
Mental wellbeing starts with self-honesty. We need to know ourselves.
