Finding the time to make the time to take the time is one of the more difficult tasks we face in a fast-paced and demanding world.
The point we tend to miss is that time has its limits. The frustration is that while we are able to see where our time began it’s not possible to know when it will run out.
That makes the distance between the two extremes so important. It’s true that life is what happens while we are busy making other plans.
We can become so caught up in getting through the day that life can become a tiresome drudgery. So many of us struggle with our very existence. So much of our mental anguish is the result of a weakness or failing in our coping mechanisms and survival skills.
It’s in the struggle to survive that we can lose sight of the importance of living. We need to be reminded that an important part of being is seeing. It’s only in understanding where we are and where we want to be that we can plan a way forward.
Responsibility for our own happiness cannot be handed to anyone else. Appreciation, love and understanding come from inside the person we are.
It’s vital that we make the effort to pause, step back and take a look at who we are and where we are.
Even more important is the understanding that we can be the agents of our own change. New beginnings are always possible. We can write our own story.
Self assessment, however, is incomplete without honesty and that capacity for honesty can be found inside us all.
Just as we sometimes struggle to find the good in some of the people around us it may be challenging to find the same qualities inside ourselves.
A starting point is to see each new day as a gift and ourselves as the recipient of that gift.
The next move is to make the most of it.
