The Pursuit Of Truth

There can often be a considerable gap between what we understand to be the truth and what we are being told is the truth.

Understanding is based on experience and commonsense. Combined, the two give us clarity and perception.

Outside of the surety that provides us, however, sit those who work hard to convince us that what we think is wrong.

Often agenda driven and fuelled by self-interest, those people can be a toxic influence on our daily existence…but only if we allow it to be so.

The good news is that at one end of the spectrum sit the educators whose only intent is to inform, instruct, nurture and guide. The bad news is that the opposite end is occupied by confidence killers who offer little more than negativity and pain.

In between those two extremes sit those of us who are being continually challenged, often questioning ourselves and risking uncertainty and disbelief.

So much of the mental illness that bedevils society results from a lack of knowledge of self. And that lack of knowledge results in fear.

It’s true that someone who believes in nothing will fall for anything.

It’s one thing to know what we think and believe. It’s more important, though, to know why we think and why we believe.

The very thing we fear the most may well be the person we are and that can affect every aspect of our daily existence.

If we want to truley know others we must first know ourselves. If we want to truely understand others we must first know ourselves. And if we want to truely love others we must first love ourselves.

It can be a daunting and challenging task but the rewards are there for anyone who chooses to pursue them.
