Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Life is full of surprises and not every surprise is pleasant.

A surprise is always something unexpected. And it is something specific. Some shock while others amuse. The most difficult aspect is that there is no way to prepare for something that is unexpected. Even when we strive to be vigilant and aware there will always be things that we simply do not see coming.

The best we can hope for is to work on strategies that help us both improve our ability to expect the unexpected and to accept and deal with surprises when they come. Shock reduction is important. Shock reaction though is vital.

No matter what it is that happens to us or through us during our life’s journey, it’s what we do with what we have that will determine our level of survival satisfaction.

It’s rare indeed that anything can be said or done to alter the facts. It is what it is. Trying to ignore something that is both surprising and upsetting is doing nothing more than delaying the inevitable. Ultimately we will have to deal with the consequences.

It takes practice and commitment to develop the strategies needed to be ready to respond when that response is needed.

While we unable know much of what today or the future will bring to us the time to start preparing for it is now.

We do that by developing relationships and networks. The most important relationship we can have is the one we have with ourselves.

The best friend we can ever have is the person we are. Unsurprisingly we can also alllow that person to become our worst enemy.
