The Voice Of Reason

Some call it intuition. To others it’s commonsense. Some claim it to be insight. Another word for it is conscience. However it’s labelled there is a calm, quiet voice inside us all offering guidance and direction.

That voice is the accumulation of knowledge and experience. It comes from where we have been so we can know where we are and look towards where we are going.

We know the difference between right and wrong. The voice reminds us when we consider straying or when we are on the verge of erring.

But the voice can do more than suggest. It is unable to direct. We can choose to ignore the voice.

It’s when we choose to silence the voice or refuse to hear what it is telling us that we can make decisions or take actions that are not in our best interest.

It’s at those times that we look outside of ourselves to find a place to lay blame.

No-one likes dealing with unpleasant or difficult consequences but actions are followed by reactions and we are saddled with responsibility.

We look for the reassurance that what we know to be true is factual, that what we know is right is correct. The search can be filled with stress and anguish. Often, though, that reassurance, when found, helps us regain our psychological balance. Inner peace is possible.

The ultimate choice is always our own but admitting doubt and asking for help is a way to draw on the strength that is around us to bolster the strength within.

It’s important to acknowledge that we are our own greatest resource and that our head, heart and gut all have something vital to offer..
