Memories are important. They serve as milestones along life’s journey. They remind us of the bad things and they remind us of the good things. They can both comfort and disturb. Only we can decide how we will be impacted by the thoughts generated by that which has passed.
And that’s a key point. The past is behind us. While gone, there will be many things that will never be forgotten. The past has brought us to this present. What we make of the day we have is entirely up to us.
When in balance memories of bad experiences should serve as teaching moments. We learn when we suffer. Growth can be a gruelling process. Pain and progress can be closely linked. At the same time there’s a link between suffering and surrender. Choosing the right path, the right decision is rarely simple.
Memories of good experiences are a warm emotional blanket…a comfort to be called on in times of stress and challenge.
It can take effort to make memorable moments. Often we have to step outside our comfort zone to find something worthwhile and lasting. Second guessing can result from the fear that it’s not only good things that sit beyond the walls and restrictions we have created for ourselves.
Risk is key to all and any of our endeavours. Risk can be calculated. Risk is important.
As individuals it’s vital to be the change we want to see. That which we want to see outside of us must start within us.
It takes conscious and continuous effort to ensure that we are not trapped and enslaved by memories, whether good or bad.
Right now is the most important time in anyone’s life.
