Privacy and solitude have their place. There are times when when need to step back, untangle a few of the emotional knots in our lives and languish in the peace of our own company.
But, for most people, those times are rare. What we crave above all else is companionship and connection.
For the sake of our mental wellbeing we need to be able to interact. We need the opportunity to put into words those sometimes random thoughts that rattle around inside our heads.
People need people.
And while connection is vital there is also much that can be said for reconnection. The beauty of reconnection is that it’s a matter of choice.
There are people and circumstances that we are unable to avoid in our day-to-day lives. But when it comes to reaching back into our past we have a unique opportunity to avoid the worst and embrace the best. We get to choose.
It’s refreshing to meet up with old friends and former colleagues and swap stories of past times. There’s joy to be found in reminiscing.
We are the end result of all that has preceded us. Everything that has happened in our lives has brought us to this very moment in time.
It may be possible to re-imagine our personal history but it’s certainly not possible to re-write it.
But the occasional revisit though reconnection can be more than a little therapeutic.
