For a long time now necessity has been hailed as the mother of invention. And I find no argument with that.
But I’d like then to nominate survival as the father of re-invention.
The way we negotiate our way through life is by a constant process of re-invention and, quite often, it can be so subtle that we fail to recognise it.
Whether we like to admit it or deny it we are not the same person today as we were yesterday. We have been changed by circumstances and surroundings and by our interactions with others and ourselves.
If re-invention is inevitable then the best tactic is to pursue it. We can nominate the person we want to be and then actively work towards that goal. And that’s a good thing at so many levels.
Resistance to change is futile. But that fails to defer some people from fighting it. Often the fight is fuelled by anxiety…fear of the unknown.
Change merely for the sake of change is a waste of both time and potential. However considered and continual change is not only character building but an ideal way to enhance our reserves of mental strength and energy.
Ultimately we will be responsible for the consequences of our actions so it makes good sense to do whatever we can to plan our best course of action and then follow it.
