Happy Versus Sad

Happiness builds but sadness has a way of catching us unawares.

Both emotions are powerful. Both are necessary. And both have their value.

The difference is that while happiness can build to excitement and euphoria, sadness can spiral into depression. It’s easier to come down from an emotional high than it is to recover from an emotional low.

A balanced spirit, a balanced character and a balanced life fluctuate between the two extremes. And, for that reason alone, there is no need to fear either end of the spectrum.

It’s good to be happy and it’s fine to be sad. What’s important is to decide where we want to live between those two points of definition.

And we can decide. The choice is ours to make. Situations and circumstances both forced upon us and of our own volition can help define our mood on a daily basis. However when it comes to living a happy life or a sad life it comes down to making either the most or the least of what we have at hand.

It’s what we do with what we have and how we use who we are that makes the difference.

Ultimately we decide our own mental wellbeing. It’s our responsibility. Others will judge but the individual knows the truth.

There may be times when we need help along the way and, thankfully, that help is available.
