Emotions are the link between head and heart…between rational thinking and romantic reaction. Small wonder then that our emotional state can occasionally be somewhat erratic.
There’s a vast gap between knowing and feeling. Reality and imagination sit poles apart. And yet we are often tempted to ignore the evident truth in favour of the promise of possibility.
To do so, however, we must deal with our emotions. To run with them may be perilous; to ignore them dangerous.
What we want and what we need do not always occupy the same shelf-space. Perspective is gained when emotions are considered. Action may well speak louder than words but ill-considered effort can have a lasting impact.
Head and heart are often in dispute. Ignoring the issue and allowing that conflict to continue is to open the door to confusion, sadness and, ultimately, depression.
It’s in the combination of head, heart and emotion that we can find our stable and safe place. But that requires both patience and diligence. And time.
There are no easy answers. There are no quick fixes. And nobody can do it for us.
Determination and focus is a good place to start.
The good news is that it is possible. Peace and control can be both regained and maintained. Balance can be restored. Head and heart can live in harmony.
