The Comfort In Connection

There are times when privacy is preferred over connection…times when we favour our own company…times when we feel the need to close the door to the outside world.

It’s when some time becomes all time that we must accept that we have lost perspective and we are causing damage to our mental wellbeing.

The key to a happy life is finding the right balance…acknowledging when we need need solitude and knowing when we need companionship.

The bottom line is that people need people for better or worse. As a long-term prospect we do not make our own best company. So bad can that situation become that some people are no longer able to live with themselves. The obvious difficulty is that we can run from ourselves but there is nowhere to hide. Wherever we are we are there with ourselves.

It’s important, therefore to maintain connection with those around us, re-establish connections that have been lost over time and make new connections wherever and whenever possible.

Not every relationship is successful but we learn from both the good and the bad. If we deny ourselves that opportunity over an extended period of time we are exposing ourselves to damaging stress and anguish.

It’s in stepping outside of ourselves that we can gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the person inside ourselves…and that’s the person from which there is no escape.
