When it comes to thoughts and emotions we have one of two choices…control them or allow them to control us.
Giving in to what we think and feel is easy and all too often regretted. Decisions made in the heat of the moment whether that heat is generated by passion or anger can have consequences that stay with us for the rest of our lives.
We can spend a long time feeling sorry for ourselves, living with the pain of regret.
The mental anguish we suffer is all too often self-generated. Confusion is a by-product of a lack of self control. We can all do better.
When challenged and upset it is always wise to take a step backwards rather than a step forwards.
We need to give ourselves the time to assess and consider the options. But that takes discipline and runs against the emotional tide. It takes practice and we will not always get it right.
It comes down to thinking about what we are thinking and feeling what we are feeling and then making a decision.
There is no such thing as a charmed life. But we can decide whether or not we will allow ourselves to live a harmed life.
We can either be our own best friend or our own worst enemy. The choice is ours to make every day of our waking life.
