We all have memories…snippets of the past that we hold inside ourselves…reminders of times, experiences and people often no longer with us or now out of reach.
We all forget far more than we remember. Despite being there at the time, feeling the elation or the pain, given time we lose track of so much of the story that makes us the person we are today.
Memories have both a good side and a bad side. They can hold us in the past, locked in a moment from which we can find no escape. They can bring us comfort in the present. Or they can give us cause and motivation to move forward into the future.
Memories are what we make of them. And they are coloured by our individuality. While it’s rare that witnesses agree it’s rarer still that one person’s recollection meshes entirely with that of another.
What we do with the memories we carry is up to each and every one of us. We decide whether they will be a burden or a blessing.
And it’s important to take the time to lock in new memories…to step back from whatever is happening around us or inside us and make a mental note.
But life is not lived in the past or the present it’s lived in the moment. And that moment is now.
