Care Starts With Self

Too many of us struggle through life feeling troubled, burdened and unhappy without making the effort to track the source of our unease.

Often the problem is obvious. It’s clear to us why we are feeling low. At the very least that provides us with reason and a reason can become a focus for improvement.

But then there are those who are unable to be specific. They know something is either holding them back emotionally or dragging them down and yet they lack the courage or the motivation to confront it.

They are the ones who are restricted by fear. And, all too often, it’s not a fear of the unseen and unknown but a fear of known and hidden that does the most damage.

The greatest fear we all encounter is fear of the truth. It’s our own truth that defines us. It’s what we hold dear and believe that makes us the person we have become.

When we know our truth is flawed but we continue to refuse to challenge it we pack more into the griefcase we carry through life.

The most difficult person to know and understand can be the person who we are. And changing the person we are into the person we want to be can be painful.

Ultimately, however, self care is the greatest of our responsibilities.
