Maturity brings with it the realisation that, when it comes to what’s important, it’s more about who you know than what you know.
While there’s a general acceptance that knowledge is power the greatest of all powers is the power of connection.
What we know is cold comfort if we have no-one to share that knowledge with…if there’s no-one who cares enough to listen.
But then we should not be looking for a captive audience. It’s more important to impress another person with who we are than with what we know or what we own.
True connection is about linking heart, mind and spirit with another person who is looking for the same thing. Those links will bridge any gap and, if properly formed and nurtured, will last a lifetime.
A full and happy life is filled with friendships, relationships and kinships.
It has a lot to do with being open about being open…allowing select others to pass through the walls of protection we have built for ourselves.
We are ultimately responsible for our own happiness but we draw the ingredients for that happiness from those we encounter.
What we know may result in us accumulating possessions but it’s who we know that helps make us complete as functioning, contributing individuals.
The good news is that we can both have and be…but it takes work.
