Trust In Self

Of all the challenges we face, the issue of trust is the one that is, quite probably, the most common.

Trust is the general acceptance that those around us have our best interests at heart. It’s about the need to believe that what we are being told is the truth. It’s about the certainty that we are not going to be betrayed.

Trust is foundational in relationships. We want to be able to trust other people.

And yet trust is so often abused leaving us feeling abandoned, confused and lonely. Both head and heart can be damaged. We can react by taking a step back from the person we think we are.

And therein lies the key. If we take the time to get to know who we are, what we believe and why we believe it then we are able to determine where to place our boundaries – what we are prepared to accept and what we want no part of.

If we are able to build up trust in ourselves then we will be better prepared to recognise short-comings in others.

It’s essential too that we trust in our own ability to recover from the inevitable disappointments that come from being part of a family and a community.

An understanding of trust comes from an understanding of self and that’s where we find our strength.
