Wanting And Needing

We all want something. Part of human nature is a sense of the incomplete, the unfulfilled. But all too often we ignore the direct link between what we get and what we give. More complicated still is the understanding that the give comes before the get.

Unchallenged disappointment can lead to depression and yet disappointment is never far away.

Our greatest sense of deflation and defeat can come from the realisation that we have failed to meet the standards we have set for ourselves. We expected better but we delivered less. Self-judgement can be particularly harsh. We can become our greatest and most harmful critic.

It’s when we turn on ourselves that we can disconnect…first from ourselves and then from those around us.

When we close down we stop caring and cease giving. It’s at that point we find we are no longer getting. Our perception changes from the positive to the overwhelmingly negative.

There’s a danger in becoming trapped in a loop of our own creation. The good news is that if we built it we can dismantle it.

We are in control. We can challenge and change our thoughts and opinions. No-one else can do that for us.

Importantly too, there is much that can be done to boost our self perception.

We improve from the inside out and there are no shortcuts.
