Handling The Truth

Denied access to the full and honest facts surrounding a particular situation or event, we are left with the options of presumption, assumption and speculation.

It’s when we start using our imagination to fill in the gaps or complete a picture that we encounter a set of circumstances that can be mentally taxing.

Left to our own devices we can quickly drive ourselves to distraction. The ultimate frustration in our attempts to join the dots is that what we are left with can be vastly different from what it should be. Truth is not only stranger than fiction but it can be considerably harsher.

There are ways to avoid the grief so often attached to curiousity; ways to avoid subjecting ourselves to unnecessary anxiety. The best is to accept the fact that there are some things we will not know until the time is right for us to know and there are also things that we will never know.

Ultimately, though, it’s not the truth that will be our undoing – it’s how we react to the truth; what we do with it when we find it.

While our initial reaction may be shock and surprise, we then get to choose our way forward.

It’s what we do with what we have that’s of ultimate importance in our lives…not what we think we may do if something unexpected happens.
