The Onus Of Anger

Of all the emotions, anger is arguably the most dangerous. Whether internalised or externalised it can be a destructive force. And yet anger sits there inside us all in company with sadness and happiness, a building block to empower us to build a personality.

It’s natural to experience feelings of sadness and happiness. It’s also normal to feel anger.

But just as sadness unchecked can become depression and happiness unharnessed can become mania, anger uncontrolled can become rage. While we need them to survive it’s at their extremes that our emotions cease being a bonus and become a burden. In the final analysis we decide whether to control our emotions or be controlled by them.

It’s important not to lose sight of the fact that the person we are is the person we have built with the materials we have available…and the world sees us in the way we express our emotions.

Inevitably those who are angry with the world are first angry with themselves. They have given in to the power of the emotion. Words said or actions taken in anger can have a devastating impact in and around the space we occupy.

Our emotions are ours and ours alone. They are forever our responsibility and there will always be consequences – whether good or bad – as a result of what we do with them.
