The Big Bounce Back

In times of change and challenge we are encouraged to be resilient…to bounce back to our pre-existing state of mind after enduring the torment of circumstances and situations so often beyond our control.

Resilient people are seen as tough and steadfast, examples to us all. It’s a quality many lack but covet.

The reality is that resilience rarely survives in a vacuum. It needs support. It needs encouragement. We need others around us and with us during the recovery process.

And it should never be ignored that trials and tribulations change a person.

It’s not possible to go back to who we were then when who we are now is no longer the same.

Experience changes us. Relationships alter our perspective. Time either pushes us or drags us forward. Life has a way of interfering.

Resilience is a state of being that involves both the head and the heart. While we can survive without it we are stronger when we find it and foster it.

Recovery is not an easy process but all too often we make it more difficult than it has to be.

We should never be afraid to ask for help or accept it when it’s offered.

Nor should we stand back from someone who is in obvious distress.

After all, no man is an island.
