No life is perfect. We are all challenged by difficult times and situations. It’s how we deal with what we have and what we encounter that shapes us as a person.
But the way we react to those around us is directed by the way we react to the person we are. What we say and what we do depends more on the relationship we have with ourselves than it does on the relationship we have with family, friends and acquaintances.
It’s vital, therefore, that we get to know ourselves. We have to understand ourselves and enjoy our own company.
We must make the effort to know what we think and why we think it. It’s only when our words and actions match our beliefs and values that we can claim to be living an authentic life.
Only by being our own best friend can we hope to become a true friend to others.
The alternative is living a life of confusion and uncertainty. Choosing to ignore the person we are stunts both emotional and psychological growth and blocks us from reaching our potential.
Getting to know the person we are can be a daunting task but only by acknowledging our flaws can we ever hope to fix them.
No-one else can do the job for us. No-one else can truly reap the rewards.
