The Why And Who Link

What we believe can be a far more powerful force in our lives than why we believe. The problem is that the what can block access to the why.

The why is vital. The why is inextricably linked to the who that we are.

We live in an age where social media provides a platform for the expression of ideas and where mainstream media is used to tell us what it is that we should be believing.

But within the construct of so many of those ideas and beliefs is a lot of confusion, an abundance of conflict and a general lack of common sense.

Still, we are urged to believe as though belief is the pinnacle of understanding. Too often however the reality is that belief without understanding is little more than a pathway to mental anguish. Anguish becomes anxiety and anxiety fuels depression.

So much of the psychological instability that we see in society today is generated by a general lack of true personal conviction. Our tendency is to hear only that which we want to hear and see that which we want to see. Those with an agenda to push seek to rob us of our courage and our clarity.

What results is a person who holds beliefs they have collected along the way…broken bits of ideas and principles that lack true definition. We can know what we  know but lack the capacity to know why we know it.

True mental health is knowing and understanding the person that we are. It’s about working to change the bits we can see need changing. It’s about re-invention and improvement.

No-one can do our thinking for us…no-one can do our changing for us.

If we know and understand why we think the way we think we can make our lives better.
