The Challenge Of Change

When it comes to the all important matter of emotional stability and security we all seek balance in our lives.

The problem we face is that there is all too often either a lack or a lot…too much or too little. We find ourselves wanting more of one thing and less of another.

We are all in situations, relationships or circumstances that are something other than that which we would desire them to be. We seek to be more comfortable and content in our surroundings. We want things to be different, altered, changed.

All too often the stumbling block is that we are either unprepared or unwilling to become agents of change, particularly our own. We see the effort as too great; the responsibility as too burdensome.

The great difficulty lies in acceptance of the truth that the changes we make within ourselves influence the changes that happen outside ourselves…and only we can make them.

It’s possible to learn from the changes made by others. It’s more than likely that others will suggest changes we could make in our thinking and lifestyles. Instruction and example are valuable resources but their value is degraded if we lack both acceptance and commitment.

It’s when we decide for ourselves that our today is going to be different from our yesterday and then commit to a personal change of thought or action that makes it possible we will see change start to happen.

Practicality and common sense should never be abandoned…but neither should the firm belief that change is possible.

If we want to advance we must adjust; if we desire development we must diversify. No-one other than ourselves can want it the way we want it and no-one other than ourselves can make it happen the way we can make it happen.
