There Not Here, But How?

No matter where we are there is always somewhere else we could be. It’s rare to find someone who is completely fulfilled and absolutely content with their current situation. There is an allure in the unknown.

There is a pathway linking the here and now to the then and there…and the first tentative steps are among the most challenging.

We can draw encouragement from others but the strength needed to travel the road is very much our own. For that reason alone it can be altogether too easy to convince ourselves that what’s required is not worth the effort.

But a stalled attempt is not a failed effort. The stop can always be followed by a start…a resumption…another bid. We get as many chances as we permit ourselves.

Recovery from setback – whether it be emotional or physical – can hinge on self-belief – the heartfelt understanding that we are enough now to move forward and become whatever it is that we want or need to become.

If we stay within the confines of commonsense and reason then it is possible to build a future that leaves a troubled past or present behind. Necessity is not only the mother of invention in the physical sense but also the mother of re-invention in the psychological sense.

While the pathway from here to there is the same for all, the journey is different. There are steps and stages. There are no templates…no one-size-fits-all answers.

For some it may be faster than for others; for some more arduous. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another.

The daily objective – sometimes the hourly objective – is change and progress. Small steps may take longer than giant leaps but they are also more sustainable.

Change is possible but only if we try.
