A Moment In Time

Those who do before they think are more likely outnumbered by those who think before they do. Certainly the current state of society points to that conclusion.

We live in a world where the knee-jerk reaction rules…where potential consequence is, at best, an after-thought…where response all too often has very little connection to reason.

We all say and do things that we later regret. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It gives us the opportunity to revisit what we know we should have said or done on any particular occasion.

The excuse is often given that a word or action later regretted was said or done in the heat of the moment. The reality is that our lives are nothing more than an accumulation of moments and it’s important to strive to be present in each and every one of them. This very moment follows the last and leads to the next. Our moments are linked whether we accept that or not.

In each and every moment we have a choice…a decision to make…a word or action to  embrace or reject…a thought…an idea. We have a personal responsibility to make the most of our moments because once the moment has passed it’s gone forever. And there’s no way of knowing if the next moment will be our last.

Being there in the moment gives us the very best chance of making the most of it. Our presence in the present is vital to a life well lived.

The person we were in the past may bear no resemblance to the person we will be in the future. What was does not have to determine what will be.

So very much depends on the person we choose to be today…in this moment…and the next.

  1. A very timely and current reminder – hopefully it has the recommended effect of slowing down, thinking and responding rather than reacting!
